January | Alan plays four "storyteller" style shows (two in Minneapolis, two in Pheonix) entitled "Al Jardine – A Postcard From California - From the Very First Song With a Founding Member of the Beach Boys". Son Matt helps out. Further shows take place in February (1) |
February | Alan plays another "Postcard" show in San Luis Obispo om the 17th. |
March | Alan plays five more "Postcard" shows in Altanta, Annapolis, Plymouth NH, Beverley MA & NYC (26th-31st)... |
April | ... and another three in Chicago, Santa Cruz & San Francisco (2nd-8th). Brian plays two "greatest hits" shows in Colorado & Utah late in the month. |
May | Brian's scheduled shows for this month are postponed due to his need for immediate back surgery. Sounds Of Summer returns to the US chart for the 9th time. |
June | Mike & Bruce make a return to the Hampton Court Palace festival on the 15th & 16th. Two shows in Ireland and Northern Ireland follow. Alan plays more "Postcard" shows in Park City UT, Big Bear & San Juan Capistrano CA (7th-16th - six shows). On June 8th, The Beach Boys with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is released: it comprises the original BB records augmented by new arrangements by the RPO, recorded at Abbey Road studios. It charts at # 4 in the UK and #165 in the US |
July | Brian plays four more North American shows (GH and PS) 15th-25th. On the 30th all five surviving members take part in Sirius XM's "Town Hall" series, at the Capitol Tower in LA, the first time they've all been in the same room since late September 2012. The show airs August 10th on the Sirius Beach Boys channel. |
August | Brian plays an 11 date European tour (Israel/Italy/GB/Germany/Ireland) mixing PS and GH. Mike releases a download only version of "It's OK" also featuring Hanson. |
October | Mike releases Christmas album Reason For The Season. |
November |
On the 27th, a charity cover of "Love & Mercy" by The Miraculous Love Kids/GirlWith A Guitar, a group of young Afghan girls affected by war is released, with additional vocals by Brian. Brian embarks on a US Christmas Album Live tour, comprising the entire 1964 release and selections from his own 2005 seasonal set, commencing on the 28th. Mike & Bruce also start a Christmas themed tour on the 29th. Mike is nominated for induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, in the"Performing Songwriter" category alongside the likes of Jimmy Cliff, Mariah Carey, Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens), Jeff Lynne and others (Brian was inducted in 2000). |
December | On the 7th, Capitol release two more download only copyright extension sets: Wake The World - The Friends Sessions and I Can Hear Music - The 20/20 Sessions. A further live set, The Beach Boys On Tour: 1968, is released on the 14th. Brian's Christmas-themed tour wraps on the 23rd after seventeen dates in total. A new documentary covering the last twenty years of Brian's life directed by Brent Wilson is announced: it will be released in 2019. |
