  November
Mike Love solo albums
Given that the band were under severe pressure to deliver their first album for Caribou, this might seem a strange time for Mike to attempt a solo career, much less record two albums simultaneously, but this is exactly what he did. During November and December at Santa Barbara Sound he worked with two producers, Paul Fauerso on First Love and Al Perkins on Country Love. Further details of the albums are to be found here.

1
This show was filmed, and shown at least once on New Zealand TV.
2
One of these shows was filmed by Channel 7 (Melbourne) and aired on May 10th as
"Good Vibrations from The Meyer Bowl".
3
The infamous show where Carl was totally out of it. The following day, at a press
conference he apologised, explaining he had taken medication for a back problem
and had a drink on top of it. Not exactly true: with his marriage disintegrating, Carl
had developed a sizeable drink and heroin habit, and this wasn't the only show
where he was visibly in an altered state. As all the shows on this tour were filmed,
it's interesting to consider that he may have seen this show and decided to clean up
  his act.
4
This show was filmed: two songs ("In My Room" & "You Are So Beautiful") were
used in the American Band video.
5
Brian, Carl and Jan & Dean guested: photos and clippings of this concert form the
sleeve of the 2nd Celebration album.
6
For this TV appearence, Brian 'joined' Celebration.
7
Brian played bass & piano on this session.
8
This show - which would have been the first ever rock festival in the USSR, would
have featured three Russian bands and was to have produced an album and a
documentary - was postponed a month from early June, then cancelled a week
before the revised date. The sole reason given was that the script submitted to the
Russian authorities contained "historical imprecisions". However, the same
authorities apparently neglected to tell anyone in Leningrad that the show was off,
resulting in some 20,000 fans turning up on July 4th. Understandably they weren't
best pleased and refused to leave the square, resulting in several arrests.
9
Announced on May 31st, The Beach Boys non-appearence at this show was
announced a scant eight days later: their replacements were stated to be Blondie.
In the event neither American band showed and the event was greatly scaled back.
10
This would appear to the the last session at Brother before it was sold to Tom Scott
  & Hank Cicalo.
11
Rain delays added to the length of this event and caused the show in Charleston WV
  to be cancelled.
12
Either on, or very shortly after this date, a tape was compiled for CBS boss Walter
Yetnikoff to hear what his $8.5 million investment in the band had bought. The
songs on the tape (oddly dated 8/30/78 - 9/1/78) were a mixture of Criteria
recordings - "California Feeling", "Brian's Back", "I'm Begging You Please" &
"Calendar Girl" - and material recorded earlier in LA at Brother and Western -
"Baby Blue" (the Bambu version), "Looking Down The Coast/Monterey",
"Shortenin' Bread" & "Santa Ana Winds" (original version) - and even earlier, in
1974, at Caribou, "Good Timin'" ("Love Surrounds Me" is listed on the tape box,
but doesn't appear on the reel itself). Some of these tracks were far from complete
and legend has it that Yetnikoff's initial reaction was to say "Gentlemen, I think I've
just been fucked" (and for that amount of money, could you blame him ?).
Certainly, Bruce Johnston was invited (reportedly by Brian) to produce the
  sessions very shortly thereafter.
13
A Brian solo session: not for the faint of heart or easily offended.
14
Bruce was lecturing at Purdue and joined the band onstage for the Notre Dame
show. He was recording again with the band but had not rejoined the touring group
  yet.
15
The footage shown in this show was taped backstage at the May 28th Oakland
concert. Brian, Carl & Mike are interviewed.
16
There's some question as to wether they actually appeared on the show, but they
  were scheduled to.
