Billed as The California Beach Band, these shows were, essentially, the current
touring Beach Boys minus Alan and Bruce but including David. Evidently the CBB
was an interim touring setup while the use of the Beach Boys name was being
settled. However, there were some later shows that also used the name. Despite
the previous assumption, it seems now that Mike never went out as "America's
  Band".
2
Although generally regarded as the first time the phrase "America's Band" was used
in relation to a quasi-beach Boys line-up, the official billing of the band for this
show was  (deep breath) "A Tribute To The Beach Boys Featuring Mike Love,
Bruce Johnston, David Marks, Glen Campbell, Dean Torrance, and John Stamos".
Reportedly, the first Alan knew of this was when he saw it on the Super Bowl
broadcast. Twilight Zone time: not only did Alan watch the game, but so did Brian
& Carl, when the former was visiting the latter. It was the last time Brian saw his
  brother alive.
3
These California Beach Band shows included Bruce.
4
The use of the word 'released' is a bit liberal - this album was only available from
Union 76 gas stations and truck stops.
5
Mike & Dean Torrence performed. Also on the bill were Sister Sledge, George
Thorogood and The Destroyers, Sugar Ray, Duane Eddy, Tap Dogs and Penn &
Teller. The event commemorated NASCAR's 50th Anniversary
6
As this was a private show, they could apparently use The Beach Boys name.
7
Alan's last Beach Boys show until January 2011.
8
Essentially a promo show for the forthcoming Imagination album, this gig was
filmed and later released on VHS and DVD. Guest performers included Timothy
  B. Schmit, Christopher Cross and one Bruce Johnston (who also played The
Beach Boys show in Detroit earlier the same day). The audio for the VHS/DVD
is extensively post-dubbed, and Brian's closeups were shot the following day in an
empty theater (in the whole DVD, there is only one closeup of him that also shows
the audience) . The studio footage of the album sessions was entirely staged.
9
The first show of the officially BRI sanctioned Beach Boys: the requisite
documentation was signed the previous day.
10
Brian guested at these Jimmy Buffett gigs, performing "South American" -
brief footage of the Cincinnati show (though  not the actual performance) is
  included in the Imagination DVD.
11
At this in-store event promoting his new album, Brian signed copies, did a fan Q&A
  and a small performance.
12
Brian also guested on these west coast Buffett shows: at all of them he did "In My
Room" & "Surfin' USA". Both Irvine shows added "South American" (in the body
of the show - the other songs were encores) and for the second one he added
"California Girls". These guest spots would seem to indicate that by October 1998,
Brian was living in LA once more.
13
He performed "In My Room", "Lay Down Burden" and "Do It Again".
14
Brian & Melinda dropped in on this launch party for Wondermints latest album, to
see if they were up to forming the core of Brian's touring band. Brian was "coaxed"
onstage to sing lead on "Do It Again". Evidently the band passed the "audition"...
