Mike wasn't present for these sessions: he was in Rishikesh with the Maharishi in February & March, and stopped off in London for a few days on the way back.. |
2
|
Notable because Elvis was next door recording four songs for another crappy movie (Live A Little, Love A Little): Brian was too scared to go but Alan & Bruce went to see him. |
3
|
The date of this session as noted in the documentation is the 13th, but of course that is seriously questionable given that Dennis was touring with the band in Florida at the time. Further, Badman's claim that "My Little Red Book" was recorded during the early 1967 Smile sessions as a possible B side for "Heroes & Villains" is spurious, as the song is on one of the 8 reels of Friends session tapes. |
4
|
Long thought to have been seriously disrupted by the unrest in the wake of the assissination of Dr. King, in fact this tour was barely affected at all: of the 35 dates, only 6 were cancelled with a further two being rescheduled. The original source for the story of this tour being badly affected was Nick Grillo, who was undoubtedly mis-remembering the later Maharishi tour, which was a complete fiasco. |
5
|
The show is called off 20 minutes before the scheduled start when only 800 fans show up. The capacity of the Singer Bowl is 16,000. |
6
|
The Maharishi withdraws from the tour to fulfill a film contract. The rest of the tour is cancelled at a cost to The Beach Boys of $250,000. |
7
| These shows were all recorded. |
8
| These sessions were filmed and the footage used in the "I Can Hear Music" promo. |
9
|
The vocalist on this session is unknown, but sounds about 10-12 and African- American. |
10
|
This show was seriously affected by not only the previous gig at Columbus (about 100 miles away) running late but also by the band getting lost en route. They eventually went on at 7pm, two and a half hours late. Apparently the promoter paid them extra to fly from Columbus, but they drove and pocketed the cash. |
11
| Yes, those "fx". Recorded live... |
12
| Recorded for the Live In London album. |
13
| Cancelled due to poor ticket sales. |
14
|
Lead vocal - Audree Wilson. That Jim Lockert engineered this session tends to place it anywhere between the Smiley Smile and Friends sessions. |
